It’s Safer Internet Day today, an annual event aimed at raising awareness and making the internet a safer place for all, especially for children and young people. The day is now acknowledged in over 170 countries worldwide.
The internet plays such a big part in everybody’s lives and with various platforms such as online gaming, mobile apps and social media, it can be a minefield for young people to negotiate a safe path through the amount of online stimuli available. Thankfully, Safer Internet Day aims to raise awareness of emerging online issues and current concerns.
There are a number of resources available for young people, to get them talking about internet safety whilst highlighting some good practices. As a fostering agency, it is very important to us that our young people are provided with resources to complement any that they may receive via their school, parents, carers or local authority. To do this, we have posted a number of activities on our Kidz Zone area of our website, a section created specifically for our young people.
Webwise, an Internet Safety Awareness Centre, have provided some excellent resources for teachers, parents and carers. You can view those resources here.
Please help promote Internet Safety Day using the hashtags #SaferInternetDay and #SID2021.
