The process

How it works

As you would expect when dealing with care for children, there is a detailed and thorough review of your circumstances. We will assist you through every step and ensure you are happy and fully understand the process. This process usually takes about 6 to 7 months.

The assessment starts

with a visit from an FCC Social Worker to gain more information on you which will build on the detail already included in your original application form.

References

We take up both personal and professional references - people will be asked to comment on your ability to look after and care for children and young people.

Checks + Training

A full medical, DBS & Local Authority check need to be applied for. If all is well, you will attend our Skills to Foster training course to gain a greater understanding of the different aspects of fostering, including introductions to others who are also being assessed as potential carers.

Assessment

An FCC Social Worker will make a full in-depth assessment of you (and your partner) which will form the basis of the recommendation that you are approved as a Foster Carer.

Fostering Panel

On completion of the assessment, a Form F Report is written and submitted to The FCC Fostering Panel. This panel meets each month and will consider the report fully. If the application is successful, approval is recommended for specific numbers and ages of children.

You become a registered foster carer!
